Social Worker

Blog Post: 1
Subject: Social Worker

Dear readers, I present myself as Edward, but everyone calls me Ed or Eddy. I work at the McIntyre Junior High School in Ohio as a social worker. It has been only 4 years and a half since I have been working there as a social worker. Presently, I am 28 years old and live in a beautiful apartment. Unfortunately I do not have any pets since I am allergic to them. So, the reason I became a social worker is real simple. My mother used to work in this domain and I was always intrigued and wanted to know more. Plus, since she knew I liked it, my mother encouraged me in following my studies in this job.

Before becoming a social worker, I went to school for sure. I had to accomplish my Bachelor's degree so I went to the Ohio College and had a four year education. These years of my life seemed really long though but I finally made it which I am proud of myself. Yet, in these four long years, I managed to develop my communication and listening skills which gave me more confidence in myself. Also, I became more people smart than myself smart which is fundamental if working as a social worker.

So today it was a busy day for a Friday. Many students came in my office. For instance, this one girl has an alcohol issue and almost got expelled but as a social worker, you dwell with it and try to find a solution so that the worse don't happen. Also, there was a guy who cam to talk to me about his problems at home. How his parents are always fighting and all. I listened to the boy talk and tried to help him and find solutions. Also, there was this other girl who came to me crying that she was pregnant. This was a shock but managed to do just find and responded. I asked her to come each week for a weekly notice and how she was holding up. Also to talk about what she wanted to do with the baby. There were other students that came, but like you see, a social worker does not only work with small cases.
Where I work, it is not rare that there will be big problems to help. However, that is why I like being a social worker.

Travel Agent

Hello dear fellows! My name is Caroline and I am a 41 years old mother and wife. It has been 19 years that I work as a travel agent. I presently live in Vancouver, B.C. and work at TFL Travel Agency. I really enjoy working there since my coworkers and clients are always so nice and sweet. Because I work real close to where I live, each morning I walk to work, which is really pleasant and enjoyable.
First of all, I decided I wanted to become a travel agent because I always, always have loved to travel around the world. I've travelled in Europe, Russia, China, America as well as in Canada too. For me, trips are a big part of my life. I acknowledged this job when going on my first trip with my parents at the age of 15. At that time, my family did not have a lot of money. So that is how I became a travel agent, working in the domain I love so much.

Yet, before achieving to where I am presently, I had to go through steps. For instance, after gaining my high school diploma, I went to college and did courses on travel and tourism. It took me 3 years and a half to get my Bachelor's degree in travel and tourism. Though, the length of education depends on how semesters you want to take your courses, because normally it is 2 to 5 years of education. During that time, I gained further skills that I did not necessarily had before. For example, I gained communication skills and selling skills which includes persuasive ones. Also, to be an excellent travel agent, you have to be people smart, since you work with people and clients.

To see how it is in a travel agent's day, here was mine. First of all, I went to work walking which it was a pretty autumn day. Not too cold though which was perfect. When I got to the agency, I prepared my clients files for the day which I would meet. Then, when my first clients came, I greeted them and asked them several questions on what they were looking for, type of trip they wanted and most importantly, how much ($) they wanted to spend on the trip (maximum). I proposed them few options, but they seemed undecided which is perfectly normal. Then when they left, they rescheduled another meeting. This meeting took about 2 hours, which then I went to lunch. After, I had other meetings which went prettily the same. One client it was its 3rd meeting and choose the trip they wanted and I booked it for them. Finally at the end of the day, I arranged paperwork and all and went back home walking.

Dentist

Dear internodes, this is my first post of my blog which I am really excited for. To tell you guys about myself a little bit, my name is Marcel and I am a 31 years old dentist at a small dental clinic called, Hygiene Healthcare Clinic. I presently live happily in San Francisco with my wife and two kids. I also have a golden retriever which I extremely love.

I became a dentist because when I was young, somehow, seeing someone with bad dental hygiene kind of pissed me off in one way, and this pet peeve sticked with me when I grew up. With this, I wanted to help people have great smiles, so here I am as a dentist, extremely happy of what I am doing.

Like every job, you have to go to school and have an education to reach the top and become what you want to be. To be a dentist yet demands a lot of effort and focus on studies. This is why during my 5 years in university I had no real social life outside campus and with my friends, I saw less and less. But at the end, it payed me well with my bachelor and master degrees. However, I did not become a dentist without gaining skills. For instance, during my years at university, I gained communication, patience and team work skills. Communication is needed since you will have to work with a team which lead to team work skills. Also, patience is needed since when you work in a client's mouth, you don't rush. In addition, you have to be a body/hand smart person since you have to work with your hands and know the mouth.

So today, I had a normal day. I came in at work at 8:00 a.m.. I prepared myself since today I was going to have many clients. I did mouth clean ups and check ups. Also, I had to do a teeth filling to a 10 year old kid who was not pleased at all. I had to reassure him that everything was alright. It took more time though that I expected but at the end everything went extremely well and gave this kid a surprise. In addition, today I whitened a woman's teeth which took about one hour. Though she will have to come back next week to continue the treatment. Then, my last client came and did a check up and cleaning again. This ended my day and had to fill in paperwork. After this, I went back home happy that I could help others have clean and beautiful hygienic teeth/mouths.

So if you want to see my next log, come next week! Hope you enjoyed and see you next time! Bye!!!

Translator

Hello everybody!!! I present myself as Elena, a 45 years old book translator. During my whole career, I have translated eleven English books to French. I presently live in Quebec city which I highly appreciate to live there and where I was born. The reason why I am a book translator is real simple. First of all, my mother tongue is French. I know how to write and speak English because I went to an English college. So, I have always loved Quebec and the French language. This led me to have a huge desire to keep the French language in Quebec. By helping it to stay this way, I decided to become a French book translator, so people could read in French. In addition, I had extremely good grades in french so it made it easier for me to enter in this job field.

Before I became a real book translator, I went to school, college and eventually university. I am proud to say I went to Laval University. With this, I gained my Bachelor degree in language and my Master degree which took me a period of about five years to accomplish this. Also, through time, I managed to acquire different skills, including skills in language, understanding, working and wording skills. All of these skills are needed as a book translator because they will help you through out your career. In addition, I only recommend this job to the ones who are word smart since you must be this. If you are not word smart, you could possibly encounter difficulties.

To tell you guys how a day as a book translator is, I will tell you my day. First of all, I woke up at 10:00, an advantage since you mostly work at home. I had a meeting with my publisher at 12:00 which he would present me with a new project I would work with. Finally, after our meeting, I went back home and comfortably installed myself on my sofa with a cup of coffee, took the book I had to translate and started reading it. In awhile, I would take pauses and distract myself by doing something else to give my brain a break. Then I would get back to my reading. I read until it was 7:00 p.m., and I was already near the end of the book. Normally, it takes me about 1 to 3 days to read a book depending its size. Since I have not done reading the book, tomorrow I will continue, which it is sure I will be done. As well, tomorrow I will be starting to translate it. If you are wondering why I read the book first and not just translate it right away, it is because I have to know how the author wrote, the mood and all this kind of stuff. It is really important to be in the story, literally.

So now you guys know how it is to be a book translator. You might think it is a non-stressing job but there are many obstacles that make it the opposite, for instance the date limit to finish your project you are working on. I hope you have enjoyed and discovered more about his job. Thank you and see you next time!
